Cottages at BeeHive

I'm sorry it has taken so long to write a blog entry. Especially since a lot has happened since the last one. Our home computer monitor fried out last week and I do most of these at home in the late evening after it dies down around here. I also do them at work, but have been running like around with less employees and more personal stuff. We are looking at moving and I have been playing hardball with lawyers and realtors and putting in contracts on homes. KA's dad Bill helps a lot as someone to lean on for guidance with this.I find it a learning experience and also fun- but also stressful. It brings me to Pops and EE- I know the stress they feel with downgrading again with square footage and also with attendance to needs. That would be hard at any age and with any health. They have had a lot on their plate in the past year- and all are downgrades in quality of life.
Mom and Pops have put down a deposit at The Cottages at BeeHive Homes in Coral Canyon. Sounds fancy, yes? It actually is an 800 sq ft cottage that has weekly cleaning schedules and is about 50 feet from a Level 2 assisted living center. The level 2 center provides three squares a day so they will have that consistency and then can supplement snacks, etc.. from their own fridge. The plan is for the both of them to live there as long as possible and than Pops going into assisted living- then possibly hospice. All this can take place in the same building and it is right there so Mom can get meals and see Pops without having to drive. All the while, she has the freedom to live and leave independently. The hope is that this is a process that will alleviate the burden of having to work so hard to enjoy their lives together. I know EE doesn't like the idea- but it is needed at this time for them to stay together.
Why move from their townhome? Reasons are they are not safe and not living independently. Pops falls more than once weekly. It goes in spurts- but it is a consistent. Someone will be there 24/7 to help him instead of us getting phone calls at night and having to call friends or come in ourselves. Also, meals are provided as a package deal. Home cooked meals that are served with consistency. KA cooks meals all the time for them and does it gladly, but it will be nice to have basic meals prepared so that we can assist with ancillary meals and snacks/ treats. They do have their own fridge in their Cottage as stated. We went to Chuck A Rama today for the first time in 2 weeks. They cannot go by themselves and they really enjoyed it. Thanks to KA, because I had to leave early for work options and she stayed there with them for an hour. 3rd reason- They cannot manage the townhome living. It pains me to say this but they are a safety risk in the townhome. They cannot get in the car and leave effectively without someone on the other end to help with mobility. We took Pops into Chuck A Rama today in a wheelchair. He cannot walk it on his own. When he does walk, he is a huge fall risk and has demonstrated it many times with falls.
Adele is coming Friday or this weekend so we are waiting for her to move them. This is because she will be here and can make it her sole responsiblity to do it. I will help but have house deals, 3 football practices and our second game Saturday- also taking the Scout troop camping Friday night as the Scoutmaster. With football, we did roll Cedar 34-7 last Saturday. We could of scored more and shut em out but you gotta let everyone play. There is more about adjustments to his condition and also upcoming doctor visits but they will be explored....Happy Birthday E.....
