Have looked now at Ted Warthen (got the name right), Sterling Court and the Cottages at Beehive Home. Sterling Court is a pretty straight forward assisted living, and Ted Warthen is really nice- but only accomodates my Pop. The Cottages is a cute little place that we are considering. It works on many levels and it is a safety valve as well. Pops felt ok today when I checked on him after work. He has had medication changes and is trying to decrease his Oxycontin with a Fetanyl patch with limited results. Also, his primary doctor has been pushing him to go to a nursing home setting for medication management. We are not eager to do this at this point as being in the healthcare field, we know the components of long term nursing. Avoid it until necessary.
Went and saw Pops this AM after recommending he go back to his old level of Dexamethasome of 1 mg every 12 hours. He felt pretty good after he got up at 10 AM today. Pops did fall after I left today. Him and EE went to sit out front to enjoy the lower temp and 80 degree weather. Pops went down trying to get back into the house. It only reinforces the fact that we need placement for a safety valve since both Mom and Pops are fall risks at any time. It sucks- but it is reality. Life is a series of adjustments and compromises that help my mom and dad stay together. It is a hard area to deal with and there are decisions that need to be made that not always make them happy. We try to do all decisions to allow autonomy and group decision. Will update as changes are made and take on a more concrete level. The nice thing is that everything is month to month so changes can be made accordingly....
