Time For Atropine

I had a plan last night of going down and spending the night with Pops. KA was there kinda late and he was so zonked and out of it that there didn't seem to be any point. My jest of doing this was so that my Mom could rest and not worry about what was going on with him, as she is still battling a viral illness that has given her a sore throat and dry cough. Ended up going down to be with him about 3:30 AM after KA called and the gal working said he was "restless". Came in and he was responsive with eyes half open, and he muttered "Matt" after I greeted him. He was having a tough time and has a nice wet, gurgled sound from his lungs, or a death rattle, as it is commonly known. I sat him up and repositioned him but it did not help much. Today the emphasis is to start him on Atropine drops to dry up the fluids that are accumulating in the lungs from lack of activity. He is going downhill. Yesterday he ate nothing and asked for nothing. He did ask for coffee at one point and KA went and made a small cup. When she came back and offered it to him he said "no". He did have two sips of water. The one I gave him he choked on and it was not fun to watch. His oxygen sats last night were mid 80's to mid 70's and he had about a twenty second lapse between breaths at some points and then he would "catch up' with a few shallow quick breaths. I did ask him last night if he was afraid to die and he responded right away with a nod of no. Talked with Mom a bit ago and after being restless from 3 AM to 7 AM he has been snoozing and looks quite comfortable.
