Good Weekend-Tough Week

Had a pretty good weekend overall. Had baseball tryouts- which I coach Noah- so I had to scout out the boys. We also did our draft that night. I dig stuff like that, it was enjoyable. I tried to trade Noah for a kid with less hair and more power but had no takers. (That was a joke). Worked yesterday and had some good results with a stroke patient and that was rewarding. Texas beat OU in basketball- always gratifying to beat OU- even if their best player got hurt. Rockets won.... OK enough good stuff.
There has been some let down after all the commotion of the Celebration of Life party. The party was great and well worth it, but it took it out of both Lone Star and EE. Mom went to the Instacare and has a UTI, and also was "close to pneumonia"- as stated by the instacare Doc. She still sounds terrible but is feeling a little better. Thank you Alexander Fleming for discovering penicillin.
Pops has had some rough days and has been a bit angry and combative. He gets upset and does not follow directions that are in place to help him and improve his safety. He will not use the call light, he sneaks over to the Cottage when no one is there, and he has been quite cranky overall. He also is getting more confused and is hallucinating at times. He confabulates stories and gets upset when attempts are made to redirect him. I have told my Mom not to always try and redirect him because it just gets them both upset. She likes to very grounded and literal and he can't be at this point. When the family was visiting at the Cottage he kept asking for his "red shoes- the ones you polish". Mom kept saying "John, you do not have any red shoes- you never have". I finally told her to just let it go. There have been many stories like this. Ethan, the hospice nurse, says it this way. The cancer is taking all the nutrients from his body for itself. This leaves minimal nutrients to help with brain activity and function. We will see how things go in the next few days- hopefully he will have some rebound functionally. Wish I could write better news, but this is it at this time.
