Lone Star Update

Pops has not been doing well the last week. In fact, ha has taken quite a turn for the worse- both physically and mentally. He is no longer able to stand with his walker. He couldn't walk at the Celebration, but he could stand and transfer mostly on his own. He is now totally dependent with mobility. I helped him to the bathroom and it was all I could do to get him on and off. I am 6'4" and 240 and work at a rehab center, where I transfer people throughout the day. As stated, it was all I could do with using body mechanics, positioning and blocking his knees. So, the girls at the assisted living center cannot do it- at least safely for both them and Lone Star. My buddy Brandon and I went and took out the armoire and TV that was moved in about a month ago. This is because they need to move the hospital bed to the middle of the room so the girls can get on both sides to help position him. So physically, he is dependent on others for dressing, toileting, bathing, etc... Sorry to paint a negative picture- but this is the fact.
Mentally he has declined as well. I won't go into a lot of details but he has really declined. He is needy for EE- but also is mean to her at times. As she says, "he wants me there, but then he tells me to "get out of here"". I do believe it is the hardest part for her. I know it is for me. Two days ago, he didn't know who I was for awhile while I was there. He is on heavy medications but also has a mental decline as well. Case in point, the "red shoes" talked about in a previous blog.
Bottom line is that he has really deteriorated in the last week. I do believe he was really trying to keep it together for the Celebration of Life , and he did. He peaked for about 5 days and now has gone farther down the slippery slope of lost independence.
Mom/ EE is spending the majority of her time over at the assisted living center and so she cannot be reached on her phone. The cordless won't get a signal or whatever. Do leave her a message as she checks them throughout the day. Also, the number for the Beehive Home is 435 634 7305 Ext 5. If you call it they will give her the phone over there. Do keep them both in your prayers, as I know you have...
